Workshop Info

Surface crochet is a fun way to add colorful embellishments to your knitting. Vertical stripes on a stockinette or ribbed background are the easiest kind of surface crochet, and we’ll practice these basics first. Straight lines of surface crochet are perfect for making plaids or adding colors to your knitting without doing colorwork. Next we’ll move on to waves, zigzags, and freeform shapes. The sky’s the limit on how you could embellish your knits after they are finished!

SKILL LEVEL:  Advanced Beginner

PREREQUISITES: knits, purls

HOMEWORK:  Make 2 swatches, at least 3” x 3”, one in stockinette stitch and one in 1x1 ribbing.

There is no material fee for this workshop.

Students should bring:  

-At least three contrasting colors of scrap fingering or sport weight yarn

-US size 4 or 5 / 3.5 or 3.75 mm needles for making swatches
-US size E or F / 3. 5 or 3.75 mm crochet hook
-Yarn needle

Students may also want to bring a battery operated task light, if needed.
