Knitted lace provides endless possibilities for making gorgeous open stitch patterns with elegant drape and flow. This open fabric is created with yarnovers and several kinds of decreases. In this workshop, we’ll practice creating directional lace lines with the Tolliver Falls Shawl, which features a zigzagging lace edge around the sides and a wide border of Flemish lace along the bottom. This pattern calls for single decreases and two kinds of double decreases. We’ll talk about ways to fix mistakes in lace knitting, such as what to do when you forget a yarnover (or add an extra one), or how to rework a decrease from the next row. If desired, we can also talk about methods for keeping one’s place while reading a chart.
