The only thing nicer than a handknit sock designed for your foot is a sock made from your own handspun yarn. In this class, we will look at what it takes to spin a perfect sock yarn. It will cover choosing the right type of fleece, how to prepare it for spinning and what type of spinning and plying method to use. We will cover how to adjust the diameter of your yarn to spin a consistent yarn that will be perfect for the sock of your choice and I will bring along my sock pattern for knitting a perfect fitting sock with handspun.
Students should bring:
- Hand combs, a flicker or a dog brush, if they have them.
- Do not buy anything you do not have; I will bring samples for you to try and see what works best for you.
- Bring a spinning wheel with all its parts, a kate and at least 4 bobbins.
- Bring a selection of knitting needles in the sizes you like to knit with.
