Dyeing Class, One Day
Sunday, October 16, 2011
9:00 am – 4:30 pm
Class Fee: $150.00
Class Size: 16 Students
In this class students will learn about color mixing. After the class this knowledge may also be used for planning projects.

We will explore the nature of animal fibers in all forms: roving, yarn and cloth.

Students will prepare their choice of fibers, in the form they select for dyeing.

We will use the three primary colors to understand color mixing.

Students will sample several types of acid dyes. This is a great opportunity to compare and contrast the colors from different companies.

Class participants will dye a color wheel of 36 colors using their fiber prepared before day of class.

Instructor will provide:
All units necessary for heat setting the fibers including microwave, crock pot, steamer table and burners.
Seven types of dyes for students to sample.
Hand outs for class including sources for dyes.

Students will provide:

36-48 small skeins of yarn, roving or cloth in any animal fiber.

Gloves, apron and facemask
Potholders and tongs
Cups or zip lock bags
Stirring tools such as plastic spoons or used household items.
Quart of white vinegar.
Rolls of paper towels.
Markers and scissors.
A complete list will be sent to student by instructor.  The above list is representative of typical items used in classes, and will let students approximate their materials cost.
