They say you'll never find the end of the rainbow.  That's fine with me... I'm making my own.  In this half-day class, you will be introduced to the magic of natural dyeing.  Beginning with good essential techniques in fiber preparation, mordant and dye application and safety considerations, we will brew several baths to show the great variety of colors possible with natural materials.  A brief handout will provide the basics and, if this demo/lecture doesn't satisfy your hunger for color, consider topping it off with a dip into the indigo vat (see Sunday's workshop) for a hands-on experience.  Years of samples plus hand-dyed projects will show the versatility of natural dyes.

Dyeing with natural indigo is a process and magic in its own class.  The rich blues of history and colors layered with blue (greens in particular) are possible using indigo; this class will cover indigo and top-dyeing, and basic resist methods will be demonstrated as well.  Gain hands-on experience with the processes of dyeing on wool and silk.  Each student will take home samples of each color, complete instructions/recipes, a reference list and list of suppliers.
