Dear Prospective Instructor:

The 2014 Workshops will be held from Thursday, October 16, 2014 through Sunday, October 19, 2014.  Full day classes that are held on Thursday and Friday begin at 9:00 am, break for lunch at 12:00 pm, reconvene at 1:00, and end at 4:00.  Half day morning classes on Thursday and Friday begin at 9:00 and end at noon with afternoon classes beginning at 1:00 and ending at 4:00.  Saturday and Sunday full day classes begin at 9:00 am, break for lunch at noon and reconvene at 1:30 giving students the opportunity to do a little shopping or eat at any of the many vendors.  Afternoon classes begin at 1:30 pm and end at 4:30 pm.

For the 2014 Festival, we are going to introduce 90 minute mini-sessions to attract more student enrollment on Sundays.  Please consider submitting a few proposals that would fit into this category.

Things to note:

For those who have never taught at the Festival, it is important to know that classrooms are not traditional classrooms - workshops are held in an open building that has been divided by curtains and piping and, therefore, it is impossible to regulate sound.   We bring in large commercial heaters to provide some level of comfort, but they add to the sound level.

Instructors are also required to disclose if they have any other business or contractual arrangements during the Festival, including, but not limited to, sharing a booth with another vendor or being reimbursed for travel arrangements by Publishers.

We also ask that instructors not invite visitors to the Workshop area, even for just a few minutes.

  • Your proposal must include the following information:  Detailed description of each class you are submitting. (NOTE: The Festival reserves the right to cancel any accepted proposal for classes being offered within 200 miles of said festival  within a period of 3 months before and 3 months after the NYS Sheep & Wool Festival.
  • Include the minimum and maximum number of students per class.
  • At least 3 pictures that are representative of the classes you are proposing.  You may also include any examples of work done by students.

·        The per student rate includes teaching and materials fees, transportation, lodging** and all ancillary costs - there will be NO additional reimbursements made by the Festival.

  • Teaching fees will be paid as follows:

Distance ++

Full Day (6 hrs)

Half Day (3 hrs)

Mini Session (1.5 hrs)

150-299 miles

300-599 miles

600 + miles

++ Distance is based on instructor traveling one way from home base to Rhinebeck

** We will still reserve a block of rooms, but instructors needing lodging will be responsible for confirming their reservation with a credit card to hold the reservation and paying by March 15, 2014.

  • Homework, if any, required by students to do in preparation of the class
  • Materials students must bring
  • An email address which students can use to contact you with questions regarding Workshop information
  •  A brief bio and a picture of yourself

In addition, once registration goes live, we will be monitoring registration activity within the first few weeks and may ask instructors to be flexible in substituting second sections of classes selling out quickly for classes that are not garnering enough attention.

ALL proposals must be submitted by 1/31/2014 to be considered for the 2014 Sheep and Wool Festival.  Any proposals that are submitted after that date will be considered for the 2015 Festival.  Any proposal that does not include the items listed above will not be reviewed.

You will be notified on or about February 28, 2014 if your proposal has been accepted.  Contracts and riders will be sent via email shortly after.

Email proposals with photos (.jpg please) to Karen Santucci (  Each photo must be labeled with the title of the workshop being proposed using the following format:

LastName_workshoptitle1, LastName_workshoptitle2, etc.

Please do not submit them to the general email account for the Festival.
