FUND

 

The Dutchess County 4-H Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to the memory of Clarence Burnett. An active member in the Sheep and Wool Growers Association, Clarence was also a Southern Shepherds 4-H Sheep Club leader and the superintendent of sheep at the Dutchess County Fair. Through the awarding of this scholarship, the association hopes to continue the tradition of community leadership exemplified by Clarence''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s life.

 

WHO IS THE SCHOLARSHIP FOR?
 Any Dutchess County 4-H member with a 4-H sheep project who was/is in good standing during their high school senior year and/or any  Dutchess County 4-H member who was a 4-H sheep club member in good standing for a minimum of four years.

IS THIS TO BE AN ANNUAL AWARD?
 The award will be made annually to a student attending an accredited two or four-year school of higher education full time in any field of study.A maximum of 4 years of scholarship award will be granted to any one student.

HOW IS THE FUND ADMINISTERED?
 The Dutchess County Sheep and Wool Growers Association administers the fund by way of a separate account under the name of  “Dutchess County 4-H Sheep Memorial Scholarship Fund”.

HOW IS THE WINNER SELECTED?
 The winner is selected by a committee of:
At least 3 DCSWG Association members who use criteria from the application, transcripts, essay and a personal/phone interview. A scoring sheet will be used for each of these areas.

ON WHAT BASIS WILL WINNERS BE SELECTED?
 The winner will be selected on the basis of the written application, official high school or college transcripts, community service, 4-H sheep projects, 4-H leadership, and other awards received. The committee will also use a personal interview. Preference will be given to entering freshmen. However, upper classmen are eligible. Former applicants and recipients are eligible to re-apply and will be considered for this award as long as they are attending a 2 or 4 year school of higher education.

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF THE AWARD?
 The value of the award will be $1000.00 and will be provided for up to 4 consecutive years as long as college transcripts are sent to the address below by June 30th of each year. A GPA of at least a 2.5 must be maintained.

HOW WILL THE AWARD BE PAID?
 The award will be paid directly to the college. The winner will be announced at the Sheep and Wool Growers Annual Meeting.

HOW DOES ONE APPLY?
 Application blanks will be available through the local 4-H Sheep club leaders and through the Cooperative Extension office.
