NYS Sheep and Wool

The First Annual Alpaca Fiber Show will be held at the long standing Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, New York October 14th . 16th, 2005. We hope the show will interest the general community and promote alpaca as a natural fiber option for fiber enthusiasts.

The fleece show will begin at noon on Friday, Oct. 14th, 2005 and continue through Saturday morning. This level two fleece show will be judged by Kevin O.Leary. Maximum fleece entry will be 100 fleeces. Fleeces must be dropped off at one of the following farms by Wednesday, October 12th, or delivered to the Show tent by 10 a.m., Friday, October 14th, 2005.

The registration sheet includes an option for you to sell your fleeces after the judging is completed on Saturday afternoon. If you indicate you wish to sell, the registration fee is discounted. This is an excellent opportunity to sell fleeces at top prices. Farms can list the price they want before the show, or allow their fleeces to be priced according to show placement. First place fleeces will be priced at $3.75 oz., 2nd place fleeces at $3.00 oz., and 3rd place fleeces at $2.25 oz. Sale fleeces that do not place and do not have a price indicated on the registration sheet, will be priced between $1.50 and $2.00 oz., depending on the judges comments.

Fleeces must be received by one of these farms by October 1, 2005. Fleece pick up will be Sunday, Oct. 16th, between 12 and 2 p.m. Other return arrangements can be made, including shipping (at market shipping rates) and a pick up at the Empire Extravaganza the following weekend. General admission to the fairgrounds is $10.00 a day, or $15 for a 2 day pass. Children under 12 are free. Parking is free.
