The basic garment design will be extended to incorporate an optional inverted pleat which provides a graceful flow to the piece.

Phases will include determining personal measurements while being guided through the design process. They will be provided with an ample selection of stitch patterns from which they can select their preferences. Furthermore, details for implementation will be provided.

The design phase will be a team effort between student and instructor. Class culminates with a phase of precise finishing techniques to assure the successful completion of the garment.

9:00am - 12:00 noon
Class Size: 20
Class Fee: $75.00
Skill Level: Intermediate

Class Description:  Learn to modify pattern instructions for better fitting armholes and neat shoulder seams.  Revise pattern instructions to begin fitted sleeves at the armhole and then work to cuff.  This process assures desired sleeve length and avoids the common difficulty of matching armhole shaping with sleeve shaping.

Cuff to armhole shaping will also be covered along with a demonstration of sewing the cap to the top of the sleeve with a professional finish.

Homework:  Cast on 18 stitches and work in knit one, purl one rib pattern for 5 rows.  Work stockinette stitch for 4 rows.  Leave yarn attached with stitches still on the needle.  Make three.

Yarn Example:
Do not use a yarn that is too dark, variegated or has texture.  Learning techniques will be difficult.

Yarn Weight:
Worsted (5 sts/1") or heavy worsted (4 – 4 ½ sts/1") are good weights to see techniques.

Biography

Judy Pascale, a native of Connecticut and a life long knitter, launched her career as a professional knitting instructor and designer in the early 1990's.  She has professionally sold her unique knitwear under the name THE JUDITH COLLECTION both privately and at juried shows.  For several years she was employed at a yarn shop where she taught knitting classes and assisted numerous customers with their knitting and finishing problems.  She is now exclusively teaching knitting and design classes with the emphasis on customizing desired fit.

More recently Judy has combined knitting with beads.  Using a non-prestringing technique and textured stitches, she has designed classes from small projects to garments.

Her teaching experiences include the XRX Stitches Conventions held through out the country.  She has also taught at The National NeedleArts Association (TNNA) as well as numerous workshops at an array of different yarn shops and guilds all over the country.

Judy is an active member of the Nutmeg Knitters and the Soundview Knitting Guild both in CT and the Big Apple Knitting Guild in New York.

Most importantly, Judy has joined the ranks of other talented members of the knitting community whose explosive interest is creating a renaissance for the ageless art of knitting.
