In this one day workshop students will cover the following topics.
Fibers:
What to expect from Protein fibers.
The elements that affect dye color.
Preparing Fiber for Dyeing:
Skeining
Scouring
Soaking
Dyes
Safety
Types
Mixing Stock Solution
Storing Dyes
Color
Study the color grid and discuss the components of successful composition.
Mixing colors using the pure primaries: red, yellow and blue.
Techniques
Hands on dyeing.
Basic immersion dyeing.
Dyeing a progression of 12 colors using yarn.
Simple hand paint technique.
Parking meter yarn.
Materials will be provided by instructor on the day of class.

Biography:
Gail Callahan is the author of “Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece” by Storey Publishing. She began dyeing for personal use and then moved on to creating dyed yarns for commercial sale. Her one-of-a-kind yarns are sold under the name of the Kangaroo Dyer at Webs, yarn.com and at kangaroodyer.com.
