Spinning Icelandic – from Lopi to Lace

Join us for a fun day of exploring the double-coat fleeces of the beautiful Icelandic sheep. Learn about “tog” and “thel” and how to spin them together and separately for a range of unique yarns. Various preparation methods will be covered as well as spinning and plying. Class is open to those with basic spinning skills. Please bring a wheel in good working condition. (Spindlers with some experience are welcome, please bring a couple spindles in different weights.)
In addition to spinning wheel/spindle students should bring : Lazy kate, niddy noddy and paper tags for labeling.

Spin your own sock yarns! We will sample different fiber, spinning and plying choices for your own unique sock yarns. Open to all with basic spinning. skills. Please bring a wheel that is in good working condition. (Spindlers with some experience are welcome, please bring a light to midweight spindle.)

How do you do that? Unlock the secrets of this easy to knit Scandinavian “birchbark” technique as you knit a pair of wristwarmers. Once you try this technique you will be hooked! Open to all with basic knitting skills.
Materials List: Please bring a pair of 10” straight needles or a 24” circular needle sizs US # 7, 50g skein of worsted weight yarn in the color of your choice (this technique works well multicolor yarns such as Noro), safety pins and scissors.

Join Donna as she shares her tips for carefree lace knitting. Organizing your knitting, yarn selection, pattern & chart reading, “lifelines”, fixing errors and blocking will be covered. Open to all with basic knitting skills.
Materials List: Please bring a pair of 10” straight knitting or a 24” circular needle size US #8; 1 to 2 oz of a smooth, light color dk weight yarn (preferably wool or a wool blend), stitch markers, scissors.

Biography:
For over 20 years Donna Kay has been a professional knitting teacher and designer. She has a passion for knitting and spinning and enjoys sharing her expertise with others. As well as teaching nationally and locally she designs for yarn companies and various publications, including Knitter’s Stash. In order to further promote traditional knitting she started her own design company, Tree of Life Designs.
