The Shepherd's Rug

This all day workshop is for someone who loves working with wool and is a fiber artist with a closet full of fiber, the shepherd wishing to make something from their wool sheep, and the hand crafter looking to add warmth and a decorative flair to their home.
 
During the first half of the workshop the students will be shown how to prepare roving for braiding and how to braid the roving, how to design the color scheme, learn the procedure to felt braids in a washing machine and dryer. During the lunch break the instructor will felt braids at a Laundromat.
 
The afternoon session the students will learn how to start a chair pad as well as an oval rug, how to stitch the rug without stitches showing and the technique to finish/end the project. Students should be able to take home a finished chair pad.
 
Students should bring a pound of roving in a least two to three colors. We will have ¼ pound balls in selected colors available for sell.
 
 
Skill level: Basic sewing techniques
 
 
 
Ann Brown has been making custom braided wool rugs for 14 years using the wool from her Cotswold, Dorset, Karakul and Leicester Longwool sheep to make the rugs.  Prior to making and marketing rugs she was part owner of a needlecraft and gift shop for seven years, teaching classes.  She is active in the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, Kentucky Craft Market, Ohio Designer Craftsman.  Is a board member of the Kentucky Wool Society and an active member of the Kentucky Sheep and Wool Producers.  She and her coauthor, Letty Klein, of THE SHEPHERD'S RUG, continue to conduct workshops teaching how to utilize wool from the farm into a very usable rug or chair pad.  For more information, go to www.plfkarakuls.com/book
