36 Color Wheel Workshop - Saturday
Saturday October 20, 2012
9:00AM - 4:30 PM
Class Fee: $125.00
Class Size: 16 Students
This workshop will focus on dyeing animal, protein fibers, for example, wool and alpaca. We will yarn and fleece, using the techniques outlined in my book; Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece, published in 2010 by Storey Publishing. Students will also work with the Colorgrid.
This class is not just for people who want to learn how to dye protein fibers.
People working in any medium can benefit from this class, by playing with pure colors and building their confidence using and understanding color. I have observed that many students benefit when they work outside of their primary medium, and stretch their skills. All skills learned could be extrapolated to other arenas where color is important.
We will dye a gray scale using charcoal or black acid dyes and 36 color progression using just the three primary colors; red, yellow and blue.
Depending on the pace of the class, participants should bring along some fiber from their stash for experimentation.

Biography:
Gail Callahan, the Kangaroo Dyer was dragged kicking and screaming to dyeing, because of need. The lovely yarn she wanted to use for a weaving project was available only in a natural color. She began dyeing with great trepidation, and now, after modest success, dyes any animal fiber in sight. After discovering the joy of dyeing she feels that anyone can learn simple techniques, dye any color, and appreciate the joy of creating their own yarns. Gail has developed a concept of a "color grid" to help others understand how a project comes together, what brings it to life, and makes it exciting; no matter what the medium. Gail dyes yarn and fabric as the Kangaroo Dyer on her own web site: www.kangaroodyer.com and at www.yarn.com for Webs, America's yarn store.
Author of “Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece”. Published by Storey Publishing.
