The annual Wool Festival and Bred Ewe Sale will be held October 18 & 19, 2008.  Fleece judging and sales will be limited to ten (10) fleeces per farm/exhibitor.  Only sheep fleeces will be accepted for sale.

We will be prescreening fleeces for acceptance into the show and sale.  This will speed up the judging and guarantee our discriminating craft market only the highest quality fleeces.  PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY - FAILURE TO MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS MAY RESULT IN REJECTION FROM THE SALE.

  1. Fleeces must arrive in clear plastic bags and be untied.

  2. SECURE to the bag (or fleece) two cards with the following:

Your name and Your Farm Name (Both)
Breed of Sheep, Weight of Fleece
Sale Price per Pound, Total Cost of Fleece

  3. ANY price changes must be done on new cards in the same manner as original tickets - no changing prices on original tickets.

  4. Fleeces WILL BE REJECTED for any of the following: heavy contaminants; fiber length under two inches; excessive cotting or felting; moths, mold or any problem the prescreening judge deems unacceptable.  Elimination from the sale during prescreening is final and no other consideration will be made.

  5. Fleeces must be for sale.  Prices must be reasonable for size and type of fleece.

Fleeces will be received for sale from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the 18th.  Judging will begin shortly after 9 a.m.  NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.  The sale will begin following the judging.

We will be collecting New York State sales tax.  Dutchess County tax is 8.25%.  There is also a 5% commission on all sales.

The sale is two days.  If you take your fleeces out of the sale, please notify the attendant.  Fleeces will be secured Saturday night.  The sale ends at 3 p.m. on Sunday.  FLEECES LEFT AFTER 4 P.M. ON SUNDAY WILL BE LEFT UNATTENDED.  The Festival is NOT responsible for lost or stolen fleeces.

Ribbons will be awarded for Best of Class in all categories: Best Colored and Best White.  All fleeces will contain judging comments and a red or blue sticker.  If you want the ribbons, please pick them up, as they will not be mailed.

We do not send sales information.  If that is something you want, we suggest you include a self-addressed postcard in your fleeces for the buyer to return to you.

Good luck with your sale and we look forward to seeing all of you.

Please contact Joe and Judy Miller at (207) 696-8203 for a registration form.  Once completed, please return registration form and $1.50 for each fleece entered.  For those who do not pre-register, the fee will be doubled - $3.00 per fleece.  Checks should be made payable to NYS Sheep & Wool Festival.

Entries must be received by Thursday, October 16th.
